Sprecher has released their second Parklife limited edition lager cans – these featuring the beautiful art deco-inspired Blatz Temple of Music band shell at Washington Park. The beer is “a delightful, malty lager-style beer, brewed with honey from local hives.” And not just local hives, but hives in the parks themselves! A portion of the proceeds from the beers go to the Milwaukee Parks Foundation, as part of their Love Your Parks fundraising initiative.
Sprecher has already worked with the Milwaukee County Parks on the Traveling Beer Garden series as well as many donations throughout the years including building bike trails, putting in new bathrooms and installing lighting and bike racks. Parklife brew is a collaboration between Sprecher, Milwaukee County Parks, and Beer Capitol. “We want to … make Milwaukee the great place that it is and what it will be down the road. What those look like I don’t exactly know, but we’re open for looking at all those new opportunities and things that we can do whether it’s with our beers or our sodas,” said Sprecher chief commercial officer Jim Kanter.
This new can honors Washington Park, especially the band shell, which has featured such greats as Aretha Franklin, Louis Armstrong, Ells Fizgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, and Mel Torme, as well as local acts, such as No No YEAH OK, Sista Strings, and the Milwaukee-based vaudeville and circus Dead Man’s Carnival. Then soon-to-be President Obama spoke there in 2004. Washington Park was designed in 1892 by Fredrick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park in NYC. The Temple of Music was added in 1938. Washington park also features a large lagoon and a superb Urban Ecology Center.
This can is available for a limited time. You can get one at one of the Sprecher Traveling Beer Gardens, or you can find the brew at other county park locations including: Humboldt Park Beer Garden, Whitnall Park Beer Garden, Milwaukee County golf courses and at Total Wine & More (Greenfield & Brookfield), Discount Liquor (Waukesha & Milwaukee), Woodmans (Oak Creek & Waukesha), Within Reach Bar & Grill (Cudahy) and Consumer Outlet Beverage Center (Hales Corners).
